Primer Ve Rekürren Pterjium Tedavisinde Mitomycin C

MITOMYCIN C TREATMENT FOR PRIMARY AND RECURRENT PTERYGIUM
This study includes 42 patients (50 eyes) in whom ptergium excision was performed with bare sclera procedure. Nineteen eyes in
group I underwent excision of primary pterygia were the control group. Nineteen eyes with primary pterygia (group II) and 12
eyes with recurrent pterygia (group III) treated with excision and postoperative mitomycin C instillation four times a day for fifteen
days was performed. Our patients were followed from 6-19 months and during this period in group I the recurrence rate was
42.1%, in group II 5.2%, and in group III 25%. Instillation of 0.2 mg/ml mitomycin C reduced the rate of recurrence significantly
(group II) when compared to excision only (group I). The difference between group III and group I was not statistically significant.
