In a prospective randomized study, 40 eyes in which trabeculectomy had been performed using fornix based (20 eyes) or
limbus based conjunctival flaps (20 eyes), were compared. Postoperative average intraocular pressures were 17.5 and 15.6 mm
Hg in limbus based group and fornix based group, respectively intraocular pressures were controlled succesfully without additional
medical therapy in 80% and with additional medical therapy in 20% of the patients in limbus based group. These percentages
were 85% and 15% respectively in fornix based group. Neither the form and frequency of filtering blebs, nor the frequency
of complications such as shallow anterior chamber, hyfhema and pozitif Seidel test, showed any differences between the
groups. It is concluded that limbus versus fornix based conjunctival flaps do not have any effect on the success of trabeculectomy. Keywords: Trabeculectomy, Conjunctival flaps, Glaucoma
