THE TREATMENT OF THYROID RELATED EYELID RETRACTION
It has been presented various surgical procedures for the treatment of thyroid related eyelid retraction. The upper eyelid is
usually lowered using either an anterior or posterior muller excision with and without aponeurotic recession in mild and moderate
eyelid retraction, spacers are used to further lower the eyelids in severe eyelid retraction. For the lower eyelid, the retractors
is recessed and if this not successful a spacer must be placed to raise the lower lid margin.
Eleven procedures on six patients are reviewed in this study. Of these eleven procedures, ten were for upper eyelid retraction,
and one was for lower eyelid retraction. Wb used mersilen as a spacer material for two upper eyelids and one lower eyelid.
Only one upper eyelid was reoperated for over correction (ptosis).Keywords: Dysthyroid ophthalmopathy, Eyelid retraction, Surgical procedures
