PHOTOTHROMBOSIS MODEL
In recent years, the novel technique, photochemically induced thrombosis (photothrombosis) has been one of the
field of interest in vision researches. In this study, the antioxidant effect of vitamin E in the photothrombosis of the
choroidal vasculature of IV rose bengal injected albino rats induced by the light of an operation microscope was
evaluated ultrastructuraly. No cellular pathology was present in the control group with no previous IV rose bengal
injection (n=10). While minimal histopathological changes were observed, In the vitamin E pretreated (600 mg/kg
subcutaneous injection for 5 days) rats (n-10) severe cellular damage limited to anteriolar endothelium was observed in
photothrombosis group without vitamin E pretreatment (n**10). Results of the present, study suggested that vitamin E
prevented the photochemical damage to endothelium by its antioxidant effects. Keywords: Photothrombosis, Vitamin E, infrastructure, Rat
