COMPARISON OF PERIBULBAR AND RETROBULBAR ANESTHESIA IN INTRAOCULAR SURGERY
The efficacy of periocular vs retrobulbar anesthesia in intraocular surgery were prospectively investigated in a total of
56 patients. The patients were randomly divided into two groups which received anesthesia via either method. Akinesia
and anesthesia of the lid and globe, and postoperative peribulbar pain were noted and scored in each group. While
corresponding results yielded by either technique, postoperative pain were more frequent after retrobulbar anesthesia
(p<0.05). The efficacy of periocular anesthesia appears to be comparable to that of retrobulbar anesthesia.Keywords: Retrobulbar anesthesia, Periocular anesthesia, Ophthalmic surgery
