Antiretinal antibody titres were determined in the serum samples of 22 Behcet's cases, 21 uveitis patients with different etiologies
and 21 controls.
Antiretinal antibody titres were the highest in the patients with Behcet's disease. Positive results were seen in 1/10 dilution in
these patients. Positive results in 15 patients and negative results in 6 patients were detected in the second group having primarily
anterior segment involvement. In the control group there were 13 positive and 8 negative results.
According to these results the difference is statistically significant between Behcet's group and the uveitis group with different etiologies
and between the uveitis group with different etiologies and the control group (p>0.05).
The difference between Behcet's group and the uveitis group with different etiologies and the difference between Behcet's group
and the control group are statistically significant for the results in 1/20 dilution (P<0.01) whereas there is no significant difference
between the second group and the control group (p>0.05).
In 1/40 dilution there were only 9 positive results in Behcet's group and all the other serum samples gave negative results. We
think that this is an easy and susitable method that can be used to study humoral immune response to retinal antigens and that
there are significant differences in the antiretinal antibody levels in patients with immunosuppressive therapy. [Oftalmoloji 1993;
