HONAN INTRAOCULAR PRESSURE REDUCER PRECEDING CATARACT SURGERY
15 of patients scheduled for cataract surgery were applied external compression with the Honan intraocular pressure
(IOP) reducer. The others were taken as a control group. The avarage increase in IOP of whole patients after retrobulbar
enjection was 7.37 mmHg. In the first 2 1/2 minutes. IOP was found averaging 0,80 mmHg below baseline level for the
Honan group and 0.18 mmHg above baseline level for the control group. From 5 to 15 minutes after injection there was a
more gradual decline In IOP in the Honan group while there was no significant difference in IOP in the control grou. In 15
minutes, the IOP was 6.53 mmHg below baseline level in Honan group. Between the IOP measurements of the two
groups there was no statistical difference (P>0.01) at 2 1/2 minutes while a marked statistical difference was seen
(P<0.01) at 5.10 and 15 minutes.Keywords: intraocular pressure, Honan IOP reducer, Cataract surgery
