Effect of the lens opacities which can cause a dimination In retinal sensitivity on visual fields have been studied by
Automated Humphrey Field Analyzer (30-2 programme). 20 eyes of nineteen patients aged between 58 and 80 years
(mean age 66.59t6.59) underwent the study. Ten out of the twenty eyes had a cataract surgery with IOL implantation
and the remaining ten eyes only PEKKE without an IOL Preoparative and postoperative visual fields were divided into
four concentric zones and the regional differences in retinal sensitivity were examined. We obtain a statistically significant
increase in retinal sensitivity except the most peripheral part of the visual field in IOL implanted patients. In patients
without IOL Implantation there was an increase in sensitivity only in the central zone of the visual field. Since there is no
change between pre- and postoperative visual fields global indices such as PSD and CPSD values we concluded that
these criteria can help us at the follow-up of patients with lens opacities. Keywords: Cataract. Automated visual field, retinal sensitivity, Global index, PSD, C P S D
