PUPILLARY MEMBRANE FORMATION AFTER POSTERIOR CHAMBER LENS IMPLANTATION
The rate and the causes of pupillary membrane formation were studied in 83 cases with posterior chamber intraocular
lens implantation and followed up for at least 1 month in 3rd Eye Clinic of Ankara Numune Hospital. Pupillary
membrane formation was observed in 18 cases (21.69%) between the days 1 and 16 (mean 2.72). The Important
preoperative factors influencing the formation of pupillary membrane were the type of the cataract and the systemic
hypertension. The intraoperative factors were noted to be the location of the intraocular lens, the cortical remnants and
the suturation technique. The membrane was resolved by the topical steroid treatment in 17 cases (94%) and systemic
steroid was substituted only In 1 patient (6%). No complication was observed due to pupillary membrane.Keywords: Posterior chamber lens, Pupillary membrane
