SURGICAL TREATMENT OFDUANE'S RETRACTION SYNDROME
Twentyslx patients with Duane's retraction syndrome were studied retrospectively in this report. Seventeen of them
were surgically treated in order to relieve abnormal head position or a significant tropia in primary position. Most of the
patients were treated with appropriate horizontal muscle recession, while the others were treated with horizontal muscle
recession combined with transposition of the lateral halves of the superior and inferior rectus muscles toward the lateral
rectus. Mobility of the eye was not increased following recession. Abduction ability was slightly increased in only one of
the four cases who had recession combined with transposition. Other surgical techniques in treating Duane's retraction
