THERAPY
Ocular cicatricial pemphigoid Is an autoimmune disease characterized by chronic conjunctival cicatrization often
leading to corneal blindness. Ocular manifestations may include entropion, trichiasis, progressive conjunctival subepithelial
fibrosis, fornix foreshortening, symblepharon formation, dry eye, and corneal scarring. Previous studies have shown
systemic chemotherapy to be effective in halting cicatrization in progressive cases. We report the ocular findings, staging
of the disease, and management strategies in 3 patients with ocular cicatricial pemphigoid. We also present the
hlstopathological and immunohistopathological findings of these patients. Patients were treated by immunosuppressive
therapy including dapsone (1 patient), azathioprine (1 patient), and cyclophosphamide (1 patient). Following these'
therapeutic regimens, the conjunctival inflammation was abolished and cicatrization was halted in all patients. Our results
indicate that immunosuppressive therapy is helpful in controlling the conjunctival inflammation and in preventing further
cicatrization. Keywords: Ocular cicatricial pemphigoid, Immunohistopathologic diagnosis, Immunosuppressive therapy
