CLINICAL EVALUATION OF OPTIC DISC DRUSEN
We evaluated 48 eyes of 29 cases whose optic disc drusen (ODD) were demonstrated ultrasonographically. ODD
was bilateral in 85.5%, and unilateral in 34.5% of the cases.
Visual acuity was 1.0 in 44 eyes and less than 1.0 in 4 eyes related to the reasons other than ODD. Ophthalmcscopically,
physiologic cup was absent in 44 eyes, cup-to-disc ratio was 0.1-0.2 in the remaining 4. There were various
visual field defects in 65.7% of the eyes.
We concluded that, ODD which is the most common reason of pseudopapilledema must be kept in mind in the
differential diagnosis of papilledema and confirmation of the diagnosis with ultrasonograpny will prevent the patients from
many unnecessary diagnostic procedures.Keywords: Optic disc drusen, Ultrasonography
