SECONDARY GLAUCOMA DUE TO TRAUMA
Trauma is the frequent cause of the extensive damage into the intraocular structures In daily life. Secondary
glaucoma is one of the most important prognostic factors in the ocular trauma.
Between December 1990 and December 1994, Twenty six eyes of 25 patients which have been diagnosed as
post-traumatic secondary glaucoma were examined retrospectively in the Ondokuzmayis University, Department of
Ophthalmology. The average age was 30.55+22.90 (13 patients under 15 and 8 patients above 30 years old). The
secondary glaucoma was due to blunt trauma In 19 patients and perforating in 6 patients. Twenty five eyes of 25 patients
were treated surgically and one eye was treated medically. Eleven eyes have had trabeculectomy, one eye had Argon
laser trabeculoplasty, 7 eyes had lens extraction and 6 eyes had anterior&chamber lavage. Intraocular pressure has
been reduced below 21 mmHg In all of the cases with or without medical therapy.Keywords: Trauma, Glaucoma, Trabeculectomy
