We examined 50 patients who underwent PUVA therapy because of psoriasis, vitiligo, alopecia areata, universalis,
totalis, and mycosis fungoides in order to determine the ocular side effects of photochemotherapy. The patients were
followed up for a period of 12.02+8.42 months. Every patient was examined by an ophthalmologist before PUVA therapy
and in 3 months intervals thereafter. In addition to assessment of visual acuity, measurement of intraocular pressure,
slitlamp examination we also performed contrast sensitivity (Cambridge Low Contrast Gratings), colour vision (Farnsworth
Munsell 100 Hue test), and photostress tests. Uveal malignant melanoma developed in one patient during PUVA
therapy. Except that patient we did not find significant changes in ophthalmological examination and retinal function
tests. We did not observe lens opacities and retinal toxicity in our study. Keywords: PUVA, Ocular effect, Malignant melanoma
