COMPARISON OF THE FLUORESCEIN STRIP AND 0.2% FLUORESCEIN SOLUTION IN THE MEASUREMENT
OF INTRAOCULAR PRESSURE BY APPLANATION TONOMETER
Fortytwo eyes of 25 cases aging between 18 and 87 (average 54) were included in the study to compare the
fluoescein stnp and 0.2% fluorescein solution in the measurement of intraocular pressure by Goldmann applanation
tonometer. Intraocular pressures were first masured by using 0.2% fluorescein solution. Intraocular pressures were
measured only by 0.2% fluorescein solution in another group of 42 eyes 2 minutes apart. In this way a decrease of
0.40 mmHg was observed in mean intraocular pressure level. This value was added to the mean of the intraocular
pressure measurement by using 0.2% fluorescein solution in this study group and the measurement in this group were
found to be higher (0.93 mmHg) than those measured using fluorescein strip. The difference was not statistically
significant. It was concluded that the ophthalmologists could use fluorescein strip and solution in the measurement of
intraocular pressure by Goldmann applanation tonometer safely.Keywords: Goldmann applanation tonometer, Intraocular pressure measurement,
