INDEX IN DIFFERENT AMBLYOPIA GROUPS
The efficacy of minimal occlusion and CAM therapy was evaluated retrospectively using the amblyopia success
index (ASI) in strabismic (n=27), microstrabismic(n= 70), strabismic-anisometropic (n=17) and anisometropic (n-12)
patients aged between 4-8 years which were followed in our clinic's strabology unit.
The ASI mean values of patient groups were found 57.17% , 70.00%, 34.06% and 42.69%, respectively. Whilst
there were no significant differences between the strabismic and the microstrabismic, strabismic and the
anisometropic groups (p>0.05), there was a significant difference between the strabismic and the strabismic -
anisometropic groups (p<0.05). The microstrabismic group also showed significant difference when compared to the
strabismic-anisometropic (p<0.01) and anisometropic (p<0.05) groups. There was no difference between the
strabismic - anisometropic and anisometropic groups (p>0.05).
Our results imply that the anisometropia is an important factor which decreases the success rate of therapy in
amblyopia. We believe that the ASI would provide a more detailed evaluation of the amblyopia therapy, and it would
also make the results comparable obtained in seperate clinics. Keywords: Amblyopia, amblyopia success index, minimal occlusion, CAM treatment.
