The purpose of this study is to evaluate the incidence of macular changes after successful scleral buckling procedure
and to identify variables associated with their development We studied 210 cases who had successful repair of
primary rhegmatogenous retinal detachment between 1991-1994 in S.B.Ankara Hospital. Macular complications were
discovered in 47 (22%) of the 210 eyes. The most frequent changes were epiretinal macular membrane in 18 (8.6%),
cystoid macular edema in 12 (5.7%) and pigmentary changes of the macula In 14 eyes (6.7). Macular detachment,
increased duration of detachment, aphakia or pseudophakia were the most important risk factors identified for certain
macular complications (p<0.05).Keywords: Rhegmatogenous retinal detachment, Scleral buckling procedure, Macular complications
