DEVELOPMENTAL CATARACT: A COMPARISON BETWEEN LESS THAN 3 YEARS AND
MORE THAN 3 YEARS
Posterior chamber Intraocular lens (IOL) implantation was performed in 83 eyes of 62 children with congenital and
developmental cataracts between 1988-1995. Complications were compared between the groups of 0-3 age and 3-18
age. In the first group including 0-3 age main complication was postpseudophacos membrane, pupillary capture and
posterior synechia. The complication rate was found as 50 % (5 eyes). In the 3-18 age group the complication rate was
26% (19 eyes) and the main complications were pupillary capture, posterior synechia, fens desantralisation and pupillary
membrane.
The results showed that the complication rate was greater in the group including 0-3 age.Keywords: Intraocular lens, Congenita! cataract. Developmental cataract, Complication
