Here, we report the results of transverse keratotomy procedure applied to the patients who had 1,50 Diopter (D) or
more astigmatism. We evaluated 30 eyes of 27 patients (mean age 22.3 years). Radial combined with transverse
incisions applied in 27 and transverse incisions alone applied in 3 patients. Mean follow-up period was 105 days.
While preoperative mean cylinder was 3,68 D., postoperative mean cylinder was 0.93 D. Mean reduction in cylindric
refractive error was 2.75 D. Mean keratometric reading results showed 2.91 D. with-the-rule corneal astigmatism
preoperative^ and 0.95 D. against-the-rule corneal astigmatism postoperatively. When success rate was considered as
per cent of cases whose final uncorrected visual acuity was 5/10 or more, it was found that 90% of cases were
successful. Keywords: Corneal astigmatism, Management of astigmatism, transverse keratotomy
