CHANGES IN CASES WITH PRIMARY OPEN-ANGLE GLAUCOMA
Effect of intraocular pressure (IOP) on corneal curvature was studied. 21 eye of 12 newly diagnosed glaucoma
patients having IOP between 22-28 mmHg, without epithelial and stromal edema were taken into the study. IOP
measurements were done with applanation tonometry and at least one hour later corneal topography were done with
Topographic Modeling System Version 1.61. When the IOP is lowered with antiglaucomatous treatment corneal topography
testing were repeated. The topographic corneal curvature changes were investigated.
There was not a statistically significant change in corneal curvature although mean IOP is lowered from 24.6±3.4 to
16.3±4.8. Cornea has enough strenght to resist this amount of IOP changes. Keywords: Intraocular pressure, Glaucoma. Corneal curvature, Computerised corneal topography
