Subconjunctival And Retinal Hemorrhages Of Newborn Related To Labor Trauma

To search the relationship between the subconjunctival and retinal hemorrhages of the newborn and the way of
labor, parity, duration of the second stage of the labor, weight and head circumference of the babies, salicylate and the
other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug use by the mother during the third trimester.
Fifty-three newborns, whose gestational ages were 38-42 weeks, were examined for subconjunctival and retinal
hemorrhages within the first 48 hours following delivery. 2% phenyleprine hydrochloride and 0.5% cyclopentolate hydrochloride
eye drops were used for dilatation of the pupils and the eyes were examined by direct ophthalmoscopy.

eyes of the 8 newborns. Eleven of the 13 newborns with retinal hemorrhage and 7 of the 8 newborns with subconjunctival
hemorrhage were delivered vaginally.
The most important factor affecting the retinal and subconjunctival hemorrhages of the newborns was the way of
