* Dr. Viyana Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi 2. Göz Kliniği, VİYANA In this study,we report our experiences and results in performing 193 nm Argon-Fluorid excimer laser phototherapeutic keratectomy (PTK) on 14 eye of 13 patients, 5 eyes with recurrent erosions, 2 MDF (map-dot-finger) dystrophy, 7 subepithelial opacities and including surface irregularities. Subepithelial opacities were caused by a healed herpetic keratitis, 2 bandkeratopathy,1 corneal scarring after photorefraktive keratectomy (PRK), 1 excised pterigium and the other 2 by a healed corneal ulcers. The follow-up period is 15±3 months. PTK (Phototherapeutic keratectomy) role in treatment, effectivity and results of the PTK are watched in this trial. There was no recurrence in corneal erosions but only in one MDF dystrophy recurrence was observed. An improvement in post operative vision was seen in %87.5 of the eyes after 6 months. Change of refraction was observed in 9 patients (hyperopic shift or/and newly formed astigmatism). Corneal clarity improved to variable degree in all eyes with corneal opacities. Phototherapeutic Keratectomy (PTK) by excimer laser represents a secure, invasive alternative to the sugical methods promising quicker visual recovery. Keywords: Corneal pathologies, Phototherapeutic keratectomyTurkiye Klinikleri Oftalmoloji 1997, 6:253-257
