PRP was performed to one eye of 30 patients who have asymmetric retinopathy. The eyes that were PRP performed had indication for PRP. The other eyes of the patients were used as the control group. IOP measurements were done before treatment, and for the short time effects at 1,2, and 24 hours and for the long time effects at 1,6,12, and 18 months after PRP. At 1 hour after PRP, IOP increase was observed in 26.7 % of treated eyes. All IOPs were normal at 24 hours after PRP. In the long time, the average IOP of the control group was always higher than the treatment group. At 18 months after PRP, the ratio of the eyes that have IOP over 21 mmHg was 9.9 % in the control group. None of the eyes had IOP over 21 mmHg at 18 months in the treatment group. It was detected that PRP has the IOP decreasing effect at the long time. The short and the long time effects of PRP were detected in this study. Keywords: Diabetic retinopathy, Panretinal photocoagulation, Intraocular pressureTurkiye Klinikleri Oftalmoloji 1997, 6:238-243
