Enükleasyondan Sonra Mersilen Mesh Kaplı Akrilik Sfer Uygulamsı

After enucleations and eviscerations different kinds of implants have been used to compansate for the volume deficit and also to prepare an appropriate bed for the prosthesis. Between November 1993 and December 1995 we performed enucleation and mersilene mesh covered acrylic sphere implants in 21 patients whose ages ranged between 17-58 years. Twelve patients had blind, painful eyes. In 5 phthisical patients enucleations were performed for cosmetic purposes. Other 4 patients had already been eviscerated. The follow up period varied between 14 to 37 months. A satisfactory cosmetic result was accomplished in all patients. Our findings suggest that mersilene mesh covered acrylic sphere implants are a good alternative to orbital implants which are complicated, expensive and difficult to supply.Keywords: Enucleation, Orbital implantTurkiye Klinikleri Oftalmoloji 1997, 6:174-177
