Peribulbar anesthesia were applicated in 26 patients and retrobulbar anesthesia were applicated in 24 patients.
An absolute akinesia were attained in 20 (%76.92) of the patients who were applicated peribulbar anesthesia. An absolute akinesia were attained in 11 (%45.83) and reinjection were required in 2 (%8.33) patients who were applicated retrobulbar anesthesia. Peribulbar anesthesia was more effective in conjunctival anesthesia. Chemozis which was seen more frequent in peribulbar anesthesia hasn’t affected to the progress of the operation.
Intraocular pressure increase following the anesthetic substance injection was more frequent in peribulbar anesthesia (P<0.01). Application of the honan balloon has reduced the intraoculer pressure to the desired levels.
We concluded that the peribulbar anesthesia in cataract surgery is more effective and reliable. Keywords: Retrobulbar anesthesia, Peribulbar anesthesia, Intraocular pressure, Akinesia of globeTurkiye Klinikleri Oftalmoloji 1997, 6:170-173
