AD, TRABZON Hemorrhage within the vitreus cavity is an important manifestation of vitreoretinal pathology. Although the diagnosis of a recent vitreus hemorrhage is usually not difficult, the origin of the hemorrhage and its underlying cause may be more difficult to establish, particularly in those without a history of diabetes or ocular travma. Having many different etiologic groups and causing poor vision are the two important characteristics of vitreous hemorrhage.
In our study we examined forty patients with spontaneous vitreus hemorrhage with echography. All of the patients were investigated under systemic and opthalmological examination. The density and the localization of the hemorrhage, the absence or presence of a posterior vitreous detachment were recorded.
The most commmon cause is found to be diabetic retinopathy followed by the hypertensive retinopathy. Terson syndrome, trauma and the patients whose reason couldn’t be found were minimal and they hadn’t been included to statistical analyses.
The relationship between vitreous hemorrhage and posterior vitreous detachment was statistically important in hypertensive retinopathy group (p<0.05).Keywords: Vitreous hemorrhage, Etiology, Posterior vitreous detachment, Ocular echographyTurkiye Klinikleri Oftalmoloji 1997, 6:81-83
