Göz Kliniği, İSTANBUL In our clinics, between 1986-1994, fifteen eyes from eight patients with the diagnosis of primary infantile glaucoma (PIG) have been evaluated.
All the patients have been checked for the corneal diameter, corneal cloudiness, intraocular pressure (IOP) and nystagmus. Under general anesthesia an operation of trabeculotomy was applied to the patients with the diagnosis of PIG.
The least follow-up was 12 months. After the operations the IOP s were found under 22 mmHg in 11 eyes of 15 (73.3%). IOP of one patient (two eyes) was held under 22 mmHg by selective b-bloker therapy (86.6%). One other patient (two eyes) was operated with an additional trabeculectomy after two months and a selective b-blocker was added to the therapy so that the IOP was held under 22 mmHg. No complications other than iridodialysis in two eyes was seen.
In PIG, trabeculectomy is one of the most effective therapies to have the least complications with the highest rate of success. Keywords: Primary infantile glaucoma, TrabeculotomyTurkiye Klinikleri Oftalmoloji 1997, 6:77-80
