AD, ŞANLIURFA This study was planned to be able to determine variability in keratometry and biometry measurements and its effect on the emmetropic intraocular lens power calculation by two different doctors on the same patients at the same time and different times. Biometry values were obtained by A - scan ultrasound equipment using solid probe contact technique and keratometry values by Javal keratometer on 57 patients (32 female, 25 male) whose mean age was 66 (±11.9 ) years, with cataract eyes. The emmetropic intraocular lens power was calculated with the SRK II formula which was loaded on the computer, using the obtained data and the A constant. The patients were divided into three groups which are less than 23 mm, between equal or greater than 23 mm and equal or less than 24 mm and greater than 24 mm, according to axial length values. When the obtained data by two different doctors’ were compared with the paired t-test biometry measurements and emmetropic intraocular lens power values variability was found statistically significant (p<0.001). Because of the examiners being unexperienced it has been concluded that the corneal indentation which originated from the use of solid probe during the axial length measurements was an important error source which could be preventable. It was determined that biometry measurements affected the emmetropic intraocular lens power values especially in myopic eyes. Keywords: Keratometry, Biometry, Emmetropic intraocular lens powerTurkiye Klinikleri Oftalmoloji 1997, 6:110-114
