* Uz.Dr.,Gaziantep Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Göz Hastalıkları AD,** Doç.Dr.,Gaziantep Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Göz Hastalıkları AD, GAZİANTEP We studied the conjunctival cell distribution by brush cytology of 20 healthy cases with mean age 63.5 and 20 inactive scatrizan trachomatous cases with mean age 62.8.
The comparison of both groups regarding total cell amount revealed that the difference was not statistically significant.Brush score was (2.4±0.6) in healthy group and was (2.4±0.7) in trachomatous group.
There was not a significant difference of polygonal and columnar cells in both groups. Although keratinized cells were found to be more in the trachomatous group, the difference was not statistically significant. The elongated cells are seen especially in the cornea and cojunctiva surface pathologies and these cells were found to be more in the trachomatous group, which was statistically significant. Inflammatory cells were seen in small numbers.
It was thought that these differences might be due to the loss if conjunctival cells and tear dysfunction as a result if trachomatous skatrization. Keywords: Inactive scatrized trachoma, Brush cytology,
