Ali ÖZKURT*
*Op.Dr.Serbest Hekim, DENİZLİ Between December 1993 and January 1996, hydrostatic massage, forced irrigation and probing were applied on 45 lacrimal drainage system of 36 cases(23 girls, 13 boys) with non complicated congenital dacryostenosis, to obtain the patency of the system. The cases were 2-23 months of age(mean 9.91 ± 2.66 months) and were followed-up 3-22 months(mean 7.54 ± 1.84 months).
The cases were divided into four age groups (group 1: 2-6 months of age, group 2: 7-12 months of age, group 3: 13-18 months of age, group 4: 19-24 months of age). The efficacy of treatment methods in age groups was investigated retrospectively. Applied treatment methods were as follows: Hydrostatic massage in group 1, hidrostatic massage, forced irrigation and probing in group 2 and 3, forced irrigation and probing in group 4.
With hydrostatic massage, achieved success rates were 80% in group 1, 16.6% in group 2, 0% in group 3. With forced irrigation the rates were 75% in group 2, 25% in group 3, 0% in group 4, and with probing, 80% in group 2, 66.6% in group 3, 33.3% in group 4.
It was found out that hydrostatic massage, forced irrigation and probing were succesful in appropriate age groups and early treated congenital dacryostenoses but the success rates were decreased with increasing ages of cases. Keywords: Congenital dacryostenosis,
