In betaxolol group there were 9 patients (18 eyes) and in betaxolol-dipivefrin group there were 9 patients (17 eyes). After 1 year, pre-treatment and post-treatment results of visual acuity, vertical cup/disc (c/d), intraocular pressure (IOP), computerized perimetry, color Doppler ultrasonography results were compared.
There were no difference between the two groups before and after 1 year of treatment in visual acuity, vertical c/d ratio. The IOP decrease in betaxolol group was -5.35±2.94 mmHg; and in betaxolol-dipivefrin group was -7.07±2.43 mmHg (for both p<0.01). In betaxolol-dipivefrin group both Vmax and Vmin decreased in central retinal and posterior ciliary arteries. After 1 year treatment; in betaxolol group ophthalmic artery (OA) resistive index (RI) decreased from 0.66±0.04 to 0.65±0.07 (p<0.05). In both groups there were not significant difference between pre-treatment and post-treatment parameters of computerized perimetry. Only in betaxolol-dipivefrin group there was an increase in fixation loss (p<0.05).Keywords: Primary open angle glaucoma, Betaxolol,
