Of 82 eyes operated due to senile cataract, 46 eyes (group I) were not covered with cotton eye pad after the first day of the operation, 36 eyes were covered with cotton eye pad during a week after operation. The corneal thickness of all patients were measured before and on first, third, seventh day after the operation.
The mean corneal thickness measured were 561 before operation, 764 on first day, 707 on third day, and 613 mm on seventh day in group I, and 557, 787, 766, and 691 mm in group II, respectively. The differences between the corneal thickness found in group I and II were significant after third day of operation (p=0.006). No complication of any kind was observed in group I.
It has been observed that postoperative corneal edema improved earlier in group I than that in group II.Keywords: Corneal edema, Cataract Surgery,
