Fifty-one amblyopic eyes, and 26 eyes with 10/10 visual acuity (Group-I) were examined (Group I). The amblyopic eyes were divided into two groups as follows: In Group-II, 30 eyes whose visual acuity was equal to and more than 5/10, and in Group-III, 21 eyes whose visual acuity was less than 5/10. Farnsworth-Munsell 100 Hue color vision test was practised in all cases.
When the error scores compared between the eyes with 10/10 visual acuity and amblyopic eyes, the error scores of the amblyopic eyes were found to be more than the other eyes. But only the mean error score difference between amblyopic and nonamblyopic eyes in the same patients whose one eye has 10/10 visual acuity and the differences between the error scores of Group-I and Group-III in Red/Green axis were statistically significant. Because of the high standard deviations, the difference between the other ratios were statistically non-significant.
Results of this study showed that in amblyopic eyes not only the visual acuity is reduced but also the color vision is defective. Keywords: Amblyopia, Strabismus, Color visionTurkiye Klinikleri J Ophthalmol 1999, 8:191-195
