Keratometric measurements were obtained from 100 eyes of 50 healthy subjects by using automated keratometer (NRK-8000 Autorefkeratometer, Nikon) and manual keratometer (Javal type, Firenze, C.S.O.). Measurements were obtained separately from each eye. Additionaly to determine the repeatability of each instrument, five measurements were taken repeatedly for 26 eyes of 13 subjects. The mean dioptric power difference between the two instruments was 0.50±0.41(mean±standard deviation) for the steep meridian and was 0.67±0.62 (mean±standard deviation) for the flat meridian. The mean difference of 3.59±31.34 degrees (mean±standard deviation) was observed between the axis measurements. The mean dioptric power difference was statistically significant (p<0.001). But the difference between the axis measurements was not statistically significant (p>0.05). However the limit of agreement between the two instruments was quite wide for the axis measurements. The coefficient of variation was %3.24 at the steep and %3.22 at the flat meridian and %16 for axis measurements for manual keratometry. For automated keratometry, this coefficient was %3.32 at the steep and %3.21 at the flat meridian and %18.8 for the axis. Clinically when using automated keratometry values for intraocular lens power calculation, the difference determined between the two keratometric measurements obtained with the two instruments should be remembered and the axis values from the automated keratometry should be confirmed by manual keratometry readings when using them for suture removal and astigmatic corrections where axis measurements play important role. Keywords: Automated, Keratometry, Manual,
