AD, ERZURUM Purpose: We aimed to show the efficiency and complications of inferior oblique myectomy technique performed to cases with primary inferior oblique overaction (IOOA).
Methods: Between March 1997 and 1998, von Noorden's inferior oblique myectomy method was performed to 32 eyes of 21 cases with primary IOOA diagnosed by strabismus section of Atatürk University Faculty of Medicine Ophthalmology Department.
Results: After a following period of 6 weeks - 12 months (mean 5.7 months) residual IOOA was observed in 3 (9.38%) eyes. The success rate was found as 90.62%. Three (30%) cases out of 10 operated unilaterally developed contralateral IOOA. Adherence syndrome and inferior oblique underaction were not observed in any of the cases.
Conclusion: As there are many advantages like; high success rate, easy and quick, measurement is not an obligation to determine the degree of operation, dissection around macula is avoided different from dissection and recession techniques, low reccurence rate, it can be suggested as an appliable technique. Keywords: Inferior oblique overaction,
