All patients had relatively high visual potential and lens opacity causing difficulty for visualization of posterior segment. All patients had cataract extraction. Posterior chamber intraocular lens implantation was performed in 10 patients. Silicone oil was removed in 11 patients. There was visual increase in 9 patients. Following the cataract extraction high intraocular pressure was seen in 3 patients and controlled with only anti glaucomatous medication. Retina was attached in all patients. Electron microscopic study revealed posterior capsule epithelial cells degeneration. In patients with silicone oil induced lens opacity and relatively high visual potential lens extraction and posterior chamber intraocular lens implantation can be performed safely. Keywords: Cataract, electron microscopy, silicone oilTurkiye Klinikleri J Ophthalmol 2000, 9:34-37
