Göz Kliniği, Klinik Şefi, ANKARA Myelinated nerve fibers of the retina and optic nerve head are ophthalmoscopically conspicuous developmental anomalies. These fibers appear as white or gray-white patches with frayed borders and arcuate shapes consistent with the distribution of the retinal nerve fibers. Myelinated nerve fibers may be an isolated finding or associated with numerous ocular abnormalities, including mild hypermetropia, emmetropia, severe myopia, strabismus, nystagmus, coloboma, macular hypoplasia, tilted disc, Gorlin's syndrome, relative afferent pupillary defect, keratoconus, polycoria, neurofibromatosis.
In literature, authors suggested the syndrome involving ipsilateral myelinated nerve fibers, myopia, strabismus and amblyopia. Especially patients with no macular involvement appear to be associated with a better response to amblyopia therapy but prognosis may be variable. In this study, we described the case involving these clinical findings and discussed it by comparing with the other ones in the literature. Keywords: Myelinated nerve fibers, myopia,
