* Op.Dr., Ankara Büyükşehir Belediye Hastanesi Göz Kliniği,** Op. Dr. SB Elmadağ Devlet Hastanesi, ANKARA To evaluate the excimer laser photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) results and related factors in eyes with high myopia, spherical equivalent from -6.0 dpt to -18.0 dpt. The patients were evaluated in two groups, one as -6.00 dpt and -10.00 dpt and the other as -10.25 dpt and -18.00 dpt. Within the group with low myopia the postoperative refraction and visual acuity were studied and in the group with high myopia especially the postoperative refraction results were studied. The refraction in the group with spherical equivalent from -6.0 dpt to -10.0 dpt was stabilized in approximately postoperative six months and 76% were ±1.0 dpt. And the stabilization in the group with spherical equivalent from -10.25 dpt to -18.0 dpt was observed in one year and 52% was ±1.0 dpt. As a result the refractive outcomes were satisfactory and stabilized in the group with low myopia, whereas they were unsatisfactory and with a later stabilization in the group with high myopia. Keywords: Excimer laser, High myopia, Refractive surgeryTurkiye Klinikleri J Ophthalmol 2000, 9:4-8
