Treatment Of Blepharospasm And Hemifacial Spasm With Botulinum- A Toxin

* Prof.Dr., Başkent Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Göz Hastalıkları AD,** Araş.Gör.Dr., Başkent Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Göz Hastalıkları AD, ANKARA Aim: The effects of botulinum-A toxin injections for the treatment of essential blepharospasm and hemifacial spasm were analysed for 32 patients.
Material and Method: Botulinum-A toxin injection of 12.5-25 U were performed to eighteen blepharospasm and fourteen hemifacial spasm patients. Toxin was given into the orbicularis oculi muscle and orbicularis oris muscle.
Results: Orbicularis oculi spasm, eyelid forced closure, eyebow spasm decreased over the 24 hours following the initial injection in all patients. The efficacy of toxin continued approximately 75 days. We did not observe any complications.
Conclusion: Botulismus-A toxin treatment was effective and safe method for facial spasm, but transient, however, and additional treatment was required for sustained relief.Keywords: Blepharospasm, hemifacial spasm,
