Etiological Causes Of Ocular Nerve Palsies

Göz Kliniği Şefi, ANKARA Purpose: To determine the etiological factors of oculomotor, trochlear and abducens nerve palsies.
Method: 156 patients with oculomotor, trochlear, abducens, and multiple cranial nerve palsies were studied retrospectively.
Results: 33 of 156 patients had oculomotor nerve, 68 had trochlear nerve, 50 had abducens nerve and 5 had multiple cranial nerve palsies.
Conclusion: The most common etiological factors were congenital, vascular, traumatic and idiopathic in oculomotor nerve paralysis; traumatic, congenital and idiopathic in trochlear nerve paralysis; traumatic, other causes and vascular in abducens nerve paralysis. Studies from our country will provide advantage to facilitate the most economical and faster determination of the cause of ocular palsies.Keywords: Ocular motor nerve palsies, etiologyTurkiye Klinikleri J Ophthalmol 2001, 10:1-7
