Materials and Methods: SICT was performed in 12 eyes of 12 patients who have been followed in Ankara Numune Hospital 1st Eye Clinic, and the technique was described in details. Among the 12 patients, 8 underwent ST in the fellow eye and the results were compared. Wilcoxon signed-ranks and chi-square tests were used in statitical analysis.
Results: After a mean follow-up of 14.5±1.5months (8 to 21 months) SICT were found to be succesful in 11 of the 12 eyes (91.6%) in reducing the mean intraocular pressure (IOP) from 44.1±2.7 mmHg to 15.1±1.6 mmHg with 63.5±5.3% mean reduction, having no statistically significant difference with ST in terms of postoperative IOP and the mean percentage of IOP reduction. IOP levels were under control in most patients without adjunctive antiglaucomatous therapy. Filtration blebs were mostly localised following SICT compared to the diffuse blebs produced by ST. No significant complication was noticed in the postoperative period except for the temporary mild hyphaema in one patient.
Conclusion: SICT was found to be safe and effective as an alternative filtration procedure. Keywords: Trabeculectomy, Corneal trabeculectomy, Intraocular pressureTurkiye Klinikleri J Ophthalmol 2001, 10:93-101
