Corneal Involvement In Mumps Infections: A Case Presentation

* Uz.Dr., Uludağ Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Göz Hastalıkları AD,** Yrd.Doç.Dr., Uludağ Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Göz Hastalıkları AD,*** Prof.Dr., Uludağ Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Göz Hastalıkları AD, BURSA A 15-year-old female patient who had a history of systemic steroid use for chronic thrombocytopenic purpura with clinical and serological diagnosis of mumps 2 weeks before, was admitted with complaints of sudden visual loss, conjunctival hyperemia and photophobia in the right eye. The visual acuity was 0.1 OD and the slit lamp examination revealed conjunctival hyperemia, chemosis, central corneal edema, Descemet folds, keratic precipitates, flare and tyndallization. The patient was diagnosed as mumps keratouveitis and was prescribed topical prednisolon and cyclopentolate eye drops. The visual acuity increased to 1.0 and the cornea regained transparency 3 weeks later.No recurrence or problems were noted at the sixth month follow-up.Keywords: Mumps, Keratitis, Conjunctivitis, UveitisTurkiye Klinikleri J Ophthalmol 2001, 10:233-236
