Ülker Acil Yardım ve Travmatoloji Hastanesi Göz Kliniği, Şefi, ANKARA Intraocular cannulas are used in various steps in cataract surgery. We report a case in which Rycroft cannula flied away from the syringe and caused ocular damage during corneal stromal hydration in an otherwise uncomplicated phacoemulsification surgery. The cannula ruptured the iris first and then perforated the sclera at the limbus. There was rupture at the sphincter muscle of the iris but there wasn't any vitreous in the anterior chamber. No complication was seen at the postoperative period. This unlucky event, taught us that we have to be very careful at each step of the surgery to avoid the complications. Keywords: Rycroft cannula, Ocular damage, Stromal hydrationTurkiye Klinikleri J Ophthalmol 2002, 11:224-226
