Symptoms of photophobia, pain, foreign-body sensation, tearing and findings of conjunctival hyperemia, fluorescein staining of conjunctiva and cornea, conjunctival edema were evaluated and scored for each patient. Half of the patients received topical indomethacin 0.1% and the other half received fluorometholone 0.1% four times daily for 14 days. Patients were examined before the treatment, on the 3 rd, 7 th and 14 th days of the treatment and on the days 30 and 45 after the treatment started. The sum of the symptom scores was calculated as ?total symptom score', the sum of the sign scores as ?total sign score' and sum of these two scores as ?total score'.Results: In both groups ?total symptom score', ?total sign score' and ?total score' were found to be decreased significantly (p<0.001) by day 14 and there was no statistically significant difference between the groups. A statistically significant (p<0.05) increase was detected on day 45 when compared with day 30 in both groups. Conclusion: Topical indomethacin 0.1% and fluorometholone 0.1% are both effective for the treatment of inflamed pterygium and pinguecula. Keywords: İltihabi pterijium, Pinguekulit, İndometazin, FlorometolonTurkiye Klinikleri J Ophthalmol 2002, 11:177-181
