Although problems related to technique and surgical issues are almost solved there are still some about organ donation. This study was designed to not only evaluate people's opinion about organ donation and corneal transplantation but also to give education at the same time.Method: Questionnaire was used to gather data from 214 people (students of medical faculty students, nurses, assistants and patients) included in this study. Results: Although all the participants were willing to be organ donor but none of them had a donor card. Also 56,7% of the assistants, 94,5% of the students and 90% of the nurses could not state that corneal transplantation from cadaver without relatives' permission is legal and respectively 31,5%, %77,7 and 70% of participants could not state that there is no need for blood matching and HLA compatibility in order to corneal transplantation. In the patients group these figures were 100%, 100% respectively. Conclusion: We concluded that education related to corneal transplantation and its legal aspects must be given starting with the people, who work in hospital in order to increase corneal transplantation. Keywords: Organ donation, Corneal transplantation, Organ transplantationTurkiye Klinikleri J Ophthalmol 2002, 11:122-125
