Materials and Methods: Patients with lenticular subluxation secondary to blunt trauma (n=7) underwent extracapsular cataract extraction and intraocular lens implantation along with capsular tension ring implantation. Results: Six of the 7 patients were male and 1 were female with an average age of 55.6±14.1 years (range, 30-78). Preoperative visual acuities ranged from light perception to counting fingers at 3 meters. Capsular tension ring had to be removed with the capsular bag in 1 patient and 2 other patients had rupture of the posterior capsule. Postoperatively, visual acuities ranged between 0.1 to 10/10. The etiologies of low visual acuity were corneal opacity, posterior capsule opacification, macular edema, age related macular degeneration, choroidal rupture and ischemic optic neuropathy. Intraocular lens centralization was achieved in 4 patients (%57).Conclusion: Capsular tension ring implantation along with extracapsular cataract extraction may allow satisfactory intraocular lens centralization in selected patients with lens subluxation secondary to trauma. Further studies with higher number of patients are needed for determination of the safety of the procedure. Keywords: Trauma, Lens subluxation, Extracapsular cataract extraction, Capsular tension ringTurkiye Klinikleri J Ophthalmol 2002, 11:126-129
