The Combination Of Bicanalicular Silicone Tubing Intubation With Dacryocystorhinostomy In Complicated And Recurrent Dacryocystitis

Purpose: The result of application bicanalicular silicone tube intubation with dacryocystorhinostomy which had been performed in complicated and recurrent dacryocystitis with cases are investigated.Method: In this study, we reviewed a consecutive series of 36 silicone tube intubations of the lacrimal drainage surgery between 1997-2000. The follow up period was mean 14.5 months (7-30 months). Seventeen cases had previous unsuccessful lacrimal drainage system operations. Nineteen cases were accepted as complicated eyes.Results: The success of thes procedure is faund to be 84.2% in complicated cases and 94.1% in recurrent dacryocystitis cases. Second series of operations were performed was succesful 97.2% with silicone tube application with primarily or in compilicated cases.Conclusion: The success rate of lacrimal drainage surgery will increase when silicone intibation is performed with correct indications and surgical techniques. Bicanalicular tube intibation together with dacryocystorhinostomy is an easy application and increases succes in patients with recurrent and complicated dacryocystitis.Keywords: Complicated dacryocystitis, Recurrent dacryocystitis, Dacryocystorhinostomy, Bicanalicular silicone tube intubationTurkiye Klinikleri J Ophthalmol 2002, 11:62-68
