In this study, the effectiveness of imbricating of lower eyelid retractors was searched. Method: 11 eyes of 10 patients were operated in the Eye Clinic of the Haseki Education and investigation Hospital between May 2000 and October 2001. Imbrication of the lower eyelid retractors via skin was applied to 9 eyes. There was a marked horizontal laxity in the other 2 eyes. Combination of lower eyelid imbrication (via skin in one and via conjunctiva in the other case) and lateral tarsal strip were applied to these two cases. Findings: Patients were followed up for 1-24 (mean :15) months. No recurence was seen during the follow?up period. Temporary ectropion in one case, step at the eyelid margin which was cosmeticly acceptable in two cases, and a little skin tuck on the insicion line in one case were found. Conclusion: In cases of involutional entropion without horizontal laxity, imbrication of the lower eyelid retractors is sufficient to correct involutional entropion. In cases with marked horizontal laxity, the addition of horizontal shortening to the imbrication of the retractors of lower eyelid is necessary for a successful treatment and a better cosmetic outcome. Keywords: Lower eyelid retractors, Involutional entropion, Horizontal laxityTurkiye Klinikleri J Ophthalmol 2003, 12:61-69
