Three eyes of the 3 patients with traumatic cataract, 4 eyes of the 2 patients with microspheropakia and lens luxation to anterior chamber and 4 eyes of the 3 patients with aphakia underwent this procedure. Results: The average patient age 6.3 ± 3.7 years (range 3 to 14). Best corrected end-visual acuities were 10/10 in 2 eyes of bilaterally aphakic case whom secondary intraocular lens implantation was performed. In 4 cases visual acuities could not be assessed because of cooperation problem. In a case visual acuity did not improved because of ambliopia. In 4 eyes of 2 cases with microspherophakia visual acuities improved 4 Snellen lines. In early postoperative period fibrine reactions were detected in 4 cases (36.3 %). Secondary glaucoma was developed in a case with microspherophakia and lens luxation into anterior chamber (9.1 %). Mean follow up time was 13.2 ± 11.3 (6-36) months. Conclusion: Scleral fixation is an available alternative method for implantation of posterior chamber intraocular lenses in the absence of posterior capsule support in children. Keywords: Pediatric aphakia, transscleral fixation, posterior chamber intraocular lensTurkiye Klinikleri J Ophthalmol 2004, 13:145-149
