Repair Of Lower Lid Surgical Defects With Semicircular Flap

* Uz.Dr., Adana Numune Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi Plastik ve Rekonstrüktif Cerrahi Kliniği,**Uz.Dr., Adana Numune Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi Göz Hastalıkları Kliniği, ADANA Objective: The aim of this study was to repair of lower lid defects without impairment of lid function and the best fashion in aesthetically.Material and Methods: Lower lid basal cell carcinoma was excised in 8 patients. This study included 3 male and 5 female patients ages ranging from 42 to 71 years (mean age was 59.6 years) Surgical excision of the tumour mass including 5 mm healthy lid margin was performed. After this intervention, lower lid defect that consisted of 30-50% of lid lenght was created. Reconstruction of the lower lid was done with Tenzel's semicircular flap which is a myocutaneous flap to prepare on the temporal area.Results: All patients' lid defects were repaired with this surgical technique. Lid functions were protected without lagophtalmos and ectropion. Significant incision scar was not observed in donor or recipient area. Conclusions: In this study, we observed that repair of the lower lid defects with semicircular flap results in a successful reconstruction functionally and aesthetically manner.Keywords: Lid defect, Semicircular flap,Lid reconstruction, Basal cell carcinomaTurkiye Klinikleri J Ophthalmol 2004, 13:77-81
